Sonplas, an established supplier of high-quality assembly and testing technology for the automotive industry, has joined the Hydrogen Alliance of Bavaria. Founded in September 2019, the alliance aims to consolidate and expand the technological leadership of Bavarian industry in the important future field of the hydrogen economy.

The Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria is intended to establish the Free State as a technology location for the field of hydrogen technology. Central players from the fields of business, politics and science will work together with the Center Hydrogen.Bavaria (H2.B) to expand Bavaria’s technological competence. More than 140 members have now joined the alliance.

As stated in the position paper, the focus of the alliance is on the industrial production of key hydrogen components and on hydrogen storage and logistics. The aim is to promote hydrogen in mobility as quickly as possible.

By joining the alliance, Sonplas intends to play an active role in the development of technologies for hydrogen-based drive systems. The Straubing site has already embarked on the path toward H2. Among other things, Sonplas is working on the development of a demonstrator for functional and service life testing of hydrogen-carrying components of the fuel cell as well as the hydrogen-powered engine.

Precise testing of hydrogen-carrying components provides a valuable contribution to this environmentally friendly innovation. For automotive manufacturers and suppliers, tested components that meet regulatory requirements are important building blocks in the development of future technologies.

Sonplas will further expand its activities in the field of H2 in the future. The aim is also to promote the development of Bavaria as a hydrogen location in exchange with the alliance partners.
